Frank-Wu Brothers Grant for Young Chinese Documentary Filmmakers
Frank-Wu Brothers Grant for Young Chinese Documentary Filmmakers is made possible through the contribution and partnership of Dutch documentary filmmaker, Frank Scheffer, and Chinese documentary filmmaker, Wu Wenguang. The grant is designed to provide mentorship, post-production equipment access, and nominal funding to cover basic travel and living costs to aspiring documentary filmmakers currently in production or post-production, and those who wish to further their documentary studies at CCD Workstation. Typical applicants will exhibit a need for the use of CCD Workstation¡¯s personnel and technical resources in order to complete their project or studies, or the need to participate in CCD¡¯s documentary film-related workshops and screenings. Grants ought be treated as long term relationships; there is no term limit.
The grant is named after Frank Scheffer and Wu Wenguang. But looking down the road, the project will certainly expand beyond the scope of a two-man endeavor. We, thus, hope to recruit more people, and organizations and institutions, including individual volunteers into collaboration.
Support will be allocated to fellows based on the needs of their individual programs. All prospective applicants who may need to use the resources of CCD Workstation in order to fulfill their project are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to applicants whose projects are suitable and those most in need. Due to limited resources, at the present moment, applications will not be considered for projects in pre-production.
Fellows who are chosen participants of CCD Workstation¡¯s documentary events and workshops and those carrying out independent study or post-production at CCD Workstation may receive the following grant benefits:
1. Basic food and living costs
Fellows may receive two free meals provided per day in the CCD Workstation Cafeteria, and free accommodation provided nearby.
2. Transportation
Fellows may receive reimbursement for standard round-trip or one-way train fare (hard seat class) from departure city to Beijing.
3. Post-Production Assistance
Fellows will be provided access to computer and video-editing software and technical personnel.
4. English Translation
Fellows will be provided translation help for English subtitles and other technical requirements in the creation of an English version of their final product.
