New Stage, New Creation Project 2010

Call for Applications

1. Introduction to the Project:
2010 marks the initiation of CCD Workstation and Living Dance Studio’s “New Stage, New Creation Project,” a project to support independent dance and theater artists. This project arose out of the Young Choreographer’s Project, a continuing project now in its 5th year, which has already presented work by 38 choreographers and theater artists on CCD Workstation’s stage during May and Crossing Festivals. These artists are continuing to work. Apart from these participants, there have been others who did not participate in the program but have completed new work worthy of an audience. The objective of“New Stage, New Creation Project”is to enable and support independent choreographers and artists by providing a stage on which to present their new works.

2. Application Guidelines:
There are no limits or restrictions for the type of work that can be submitted, but we are most interested in pieces which: consider society and reality, are original, and tries different ways to experiment and explore the possibilities of working.?

Since this project is solely funded by CCD Workstation and Living Dance Studio, we cannot offer any financial support to its participants. This including travel, room and board expenses for performance groups coming from outside of Beijing. Our commitment is simply to create a stage for the presentation of more work.

3. Submitting Work
Requirements for submissions of performance pieces:

  1. A DVD of the performance piece
  2. Basic Information (Introduction to the piece, length, introduction to the Choreographer/Director), and a preference for what time of the day the performance should be programmed for.

Mail DVDs via expedient mail to: No. 105 Caochangdi, Chaogyang District, Beijing, 100015. Telephone: 010-6433 6143. Email the information to: ccdworkstation@263.net. (If, upon emailing your information, you do not receive a confirmation email within 3 days, please email it again. If you still do not get a reply from us, please call to confirm that your email was received.)

The purpose of creating these new works is not only to present them in the festivals. Thus there is no time limit on the creative process of these works. The participants may work at their own pace and take as long as they require to complete their pieces. There are two deadlines for submitting work for the festivals: 20 March 2010 and 1 August, 2010.

The curators will watch all the submitted works and select the most appropriate pieces to be programmed in “ May Festival” (24 April- 8 May) and “Crossing Festival” (25 September- 7 October). In addition to these two festivals, there is the chance that the work will be considered for festivals outside of Beijing, including: Shanghai Fringe Festival, Crossing Festival in Kunming (October, Kunming Theater), Crossing: Shenzhen OCAT (December), etc. There is also the possibility that there will be more opportunities to stage work at CCD Workstation besides during the festivals.

There is no required standard for submitted projects. The curators will consider each submission according to its own qualities, as well as consider the technical needs of the piece and whether the theater has the capabilities to stage it. Additionally, if the piece is not selected for the current festival program, it will still be considered for a later festival.?

If your piece is selected, we will immediately notify you, as well as announce it in CCD’s publications about the project.
